John Sutton is back in Claret and Amber after being made redundant by Hearts.

John Sutton has returned to Motherwell after being made redundant by Hearts.

The striker, who enjoyed a successful spell at Fir Park between 2008 and 2011, confirmed his return to the Lanarkshire outfit just hours after being released by the administration-hit Tynecastle men.

Sutton hit 44 goals in his three years at Well and expressed his happiness at returning to the club on a two-year contract.

Speaking to Motherwell's official website, he said: "It's good to be back, good to season some familiar faces and there's a lot to look forward to.

"I wasn't desperate to leave here last time and I was glad for the opportunity to come back again and work with the manager and the staff who always made me feel welcome any time I returned.

"Most of the fans were kind to me when I left and were brilliant with me when I was here so it was a no brainer.

"I felt at home here last time, I enjoyed coming to work every day and I am sure that will be the case again now."

The signing comes just 24 hours after Stuart McCall admitted defeat in his efforts to keep Michael Higdon at Well.

Sutton joins fellow new recruits Paul Lawson and Iain Vigurs at Fir Park.
