Hibs midfielder keen to savour derby day

Saturday 29 June 2013

Owain Tudur-Jones insists it would be a disaster if the Edinburgh derby become the latest showpiece Scottish fixture to disappear.

Barring a cup pairing, the coming campaign will again be bereft of Old Firm games, while the Dundee derby will also be missing this term. With Hearts in financial difficulty, the capital encounter is also in doubt but, upon his arrival at Hibernian, Tudur-Jones insisted he is desperate for that derby to survive.

"There will be one or two Hibs fans glad of their demise but we need these derbies," he said. "Those are the games you are desperate to play in and the supporters lap them up. When the fixtures came out I saw the derby was the second game on the card and so we don't have to wait too long for it. I am sure there will be a bit of extra bite in that one especially with the goings-on behind the scenes at Hearts at the moment."
