Gaffer praises Hamill and Stevo

Gary Locke last night heaped praise on two of his older heads as Hearts beat Crusaders 2-0.

The Jambos won their opening match of the Belfast Tournament thanks to goals from Ryan Stevenson and Jamie Hamill, which prompted the gaffer to express his belief that the Ayrshire pair will be massive players this season for the club.

Speaking to Hearts News after the game, Gary said: "I'm delighted, especially with the second half performance. That's the type of performance we're looking for.

"Stevenson and Hamill did really well tonight, especially Jamie. A few people forget that he's been out a long time with his cruciate and I know from a personal point of view how difficult it is when you've been out a long time then you come back.

"But I thought tonight that he showed that he was back to being himself. He was hungry, he was getting up and down the line, he was getting crosses into the box and making good tackles.

"The two of them will be vital for us this season."
