Report
Kilmarnock climbed to third in the SPL after an impressive 2-0 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday (Oct 21).

Goals from Danny Invincibile and Gary Wales gave Killie the win as their defence held firm while Hearts crumbled.

However, it was the home side who started the sharpest in front of the 16,849 fans and Edgaras Jankauskas would have opened the scoring if his shot hadn't been deflected after he collected a clever flick from Deividas Cesnauskis.

Hearts continued to pile pressure on Kille, who had beaten Aberdeen the previous weekend in what must have been one of the most one-sided 1-0 wins ever, but the visitors' defence held firm.

After surviving for a period, Kilmarnock began to start playing, and James Fowler could have done better when he blasted the ball over the bar from the edge of the box.

However, Fowler's miss should have served as a warning shot to Hearts, but the Edinburgh side soon found themselves behind after some sloppy play.

Steven Pressley stumbled as Steven Naismith slotted the ball through to Invincibile, who then fired the ball past Craig Gordon to give Killie a 1-0 lead after 28 minutes.

The lead was soon doubled when, after 35 minutes, Mirsad Beslija lost his footing on the greasy surface and Gary Wales' strike was deflected off Christophe Berra, to the despair of the wrong-footed Gordon.

The rest of the game was littered with chances, but at no point did Hearts dominate as they had at the start of the game.

In fact, for every chance the home side had, Kilmarnock also had one - as was evident when Naismith headed the ball against the bar when he should have made it 3-0.

An impressive result for Killie and a shattering one for Hearts - although, on this match alone, it is hard to tell who will finish higher in the SPL this season.
