BOOZE CLINIC BOSS CALLS ME 'MIRACLE'

Ex-Celt beats demons
Exclusive by Mark Mcgivern

FORMER Scotland star Mike Galloway last night told how he has beaten his booze demons.

Galloway, who played for Celtic and Hearts, last night praised the Tony Adams Clinic, where he was dubbed "TheMiracle" for the way he has turned his life around in recent months.

Yesterday a court gave him his driving licence back, halfway through an eight-year ban.

He convinced the court he was a reformed character and is looking forward to a new life without booze.

The fallen star admitted himself to the Sporting Chance clinic in Hampshire - run by former Arsenal and England s t a r Adams - where he spent 28 days in rehab.

Outside Berwick magistrates court yesterday he said: "That really turned my life around. Peter Kay is the director there and he calls me The Miracle for what I have achieved.

"But in truth I call them The Miracle as well because I couldn't have done it without their help."

Galloway - who at his lowest ebb was drinking two litres of vodka a day - originally made an unsuccessful appeal to win back his licence last year. Police were still opposed to yesterday's application.

They highlighted the fact that, in 2002, when he successfully overturned a fiveyear ban, he was arrested five months later and convicted of his fourth drink-driving offence.

But crown prosecutor Mark Brennan admitted: "A lot has changed since then. Peter Kay speaks very highly of Galloway and they have placed a lot of faith in him.

"He tells us Galloway is not drinking and that he is attending AA meetings.

"They also say he has been going around his local junior football clubs speaking to the youngsters and warning them of all the pitfalls he has had to face."

Galloway, 41, who now lives in Troon, Ayrshire, said: "I lost everything through drink, including my family, but now I have a new family and I feel everything is working out for me.

"I know what I have done in the past has been horrendous but I'm turning my life around now.

" When my football career ended following a bad road crash 11 years ago it was a devastating blow."
