McGlynn is weighing up Rovers offer

JOHN McGLYNN is weighing up his future after being offered the Raith Rovers manager's job.

The Tynecastle assistant coach met Starks' Park officials yesterday to be interviewed and was the overwhelming choice among the Rovers board.

It is believed that McGlynn did not apply for the job, but was invited for an interview on the recommendation of ex-Hearts and Rovers boss Craig Levein.

Levein worked as Rovers manager on a game-to-game basis earlier this season before taking over at Dundee United and has first-hand knowledge of McGlynn's abilities, having worked with him at Tynecastle.

McGlynn, who was Levein's assistant, has been with Hearts for over a decade and has been the one constant throughout the recent changes implemented by owner Vladimir Romanov.

A popular figure among players and supporters alike, he has worked in the background amid the uncertainty at a club which has had seven different managers over the past two years.

He has seen Levein, John Robertson, George Burley, Graham Rix, Valdas Ivanauskas and now Eduard Malofeev come and go and has even stepped in as caretaker manager himself.

However, with Eugenijus Riabovas set to take the reins in the continued absence of Ivanauskas, it appears the time has come for him to be his own man and his man-management skills, along with his diplomacy, are among the qualities which attracted Raith's attentions.

A source at the Kirkcaldy club said: "John was interviewed for the job yesterday. It's now up to him but the club hope to have an answer, one way or the other, within the next 48 to 72 hours."
