British Manager Soon?

Many of those fans who met Vladimir Romanov at last week's 'G10' meeting came away thinking that Hearts could be looking to appoint an experienced British manager in the near future.

Commenting on Valdas Ivanauskas' return to his Head Coach role this week, Romanov hinted that this would only be a temporary move as Valdas is 'too inexperienced' to keep the job long-term. He then indicated that he'd be looking for a more experienced manager from the UK to take the job instead, someone who would be able to help attain his goal of having the playing squad consisting of '70% Scots'.

I wonder then, why Romanov refused to pay Sir Bobby Robson the money he was looking for when he was interviewed for the job last season. If he was looking for an experienced British manager, I can't think of many others of that calibre who were actually interested in taking the job, so if this was what he wanted, why not appoint him?

I also wonder what Valdas makes of all this. If he hears his boss coming out with statements like that publicly, then does it not make him look a little bit silly? Unless of course this is all a bit of psychology to get Valdas to up his game and prove that he is the man for the job. I'd be surprised if that was the case though.

I think a lot of Hearts fans have lost patience with Romanov and to be honest, the way he deflected many questions from the forum last week is not going to have done him many favours with those who are not still brainwashed into his way of thinking. To continue citing the media as the main reason for the current state of affairs at Tynecastle beggars belief. I'm frankly amazed that some fans came away from the meeting encouraged by what they had heard.

I think we'd all be happy if Hearts appointed a manager of distinction in the near future, regardless of his nationality. We'd be even happier if the man brought in was allowed to do his job without interference too, but then perhaps that's asking for a little too much! One step at a time.....
