Hearts and Hibs fans to line up against each other for charity matchMARK BONTHRONE HEARTS and Hibs fans are to take their rivalry on to the pitch when they clash in a charity football match at Easter Road at the start of April. It is the second year that the event has taken place with last season's game at Tynecastle watched by almost 1500 spectators and more than £8,000 raised for The Edinburgh Sick Kids Friend Foundation but organisers are hoping to better that tally. The beneficiaries of this season's tie will be Simpson's Special Care Babies and the organisers are aiming to establish the event as a permanent fixture. "We are hoping that this will now become an annual sporting event in the city and that it can bring rival fans together for one common goal," said organiser Scott Moncrieff. "We are looking for a sponsor to allow us to raise as much money as we possibly can for a very worthwhile cause. All the money raised through their sponsorship, player and corporate sponsorship, gate receipts, programme sales and also a charity race night will go directly to Simpson's Special Care Babies." The Hearts supporters' team are looking to defend the trophy and, more or less, the same squads have been retained from last term. The match will take place at Easter Road on Sunday, April 8, at 1.00pm. ![]() Taken from the Scotsman |
