Kevin keen to repay faith

Rising star Kevin McHattie has revealed he was happy to take a wage cut to help repay the faith the club has shown in him.

The young full-back revealed his decision after Jamie Macdonald and Ryan Stevenson both accepted salary cuts to help keep Hearts beating.

"I was happy to do whatever I could to stay at this club," said Kevin, who popped down to the Ticket Centre yesterday with manager Gary Locke and team-mates Jamie Walker and Dale Carrick to meet the fans buying season tickets.

"I want to stay here, it's a magnificent club, a great family club and I want to be here. My agent suggested that I do it and I said 'yeah, definitely'. I am lucky enough to have some savings so I will stick with them. It's thinking about your other team-mates and people at the club as well.

"The fact that Jamie MacDonald and Ryan Stevenson have already taken cuts bodes well for the club's survival - it's remarkable of them to do that. They want to play here and it's great to see that.

"I've done it for everything Hearts have done for me. They brought me up as a young kid to where I am now, it has been magnificent."
