GERS SONG PROBEBy Gary Ralston RANGERS face a fresh probe into sectarian singing by their fans following Sunday's 1-0 win at Hearts. They will also be put in the dock after missiles were thrown at home keeper Craig Gordon during the game. The Rangers fans will be reported to the SPL by match delegate Willie MacDougall, the former SFA security boss. He will mention the singing of inappropriate anthems, which were especially voluble when Nacho Novo opened the scoring, and that two missiles were aimed at Gordon during the second half of the game. Rangers fans in the Roseburn Stand reacted after a clash on the goal line between Novo and Marius Zaliukas, which resulted in a yellow card for the Spanish striker for aiming a kick at the Hearts defender. Two items, believed to be a soft drink container and a coin, were thrown in the direction of Gordon and were spotted by MacDougall. Referee Dougie MacDonald will also mention the incident in his report as he requested a greater police presence behind the goal. Rangers have been commended for their antisectarian initiatives this season, but a hard-core element away from home continue to ignore pleas to sing more appropriate songs. Celtic fans were reported to the SPL last week for sectarian singing at Love Street. ![]() Taken from the Daily Record |
