NEW RAITH BOSS JOHN STILL BACKS JAMBOSHEARTS can still be a success this season if they are bold and brave. That is the opinion of John McGlynn, who was yesterday appointed new boss of Raith Rovers. He has, however, agreed to stay on at Tynecastle for the rest of the week to help preparations for their clash at Inverness on Saturday. McGlynn's departure leaves the club with goalkeeping specialist Jim Stewart as the only native English speaker on the first team coaching staff. However, it's understood Under-19 coach Steve Frail will step up to help in the short term. McGlynn, 44, has been at Hearts for a decade but will not be dishing the dirt on the Romanov regime. But he has called on the warring factions to resolve their issues and firmly believes they can still be a success this season. McGlynn said: "The situation is frustrating for all fans and it's something that needs to be addressed. "They can't keep thinking it's going to go away because it's not. If they are big enough and brave enough, they can sort it out and turn the corner. "If they do that, I've no doubt the club will soon be back on track for success." McGlynn was at Stark's Park yesterday after putting pen to paper on an 18-month contract and will also oversee training with the Second Division club tomorrow night before taking charge against Stranraer on Saturday. He admits the timing of the new job is not ideal but could not knock back the chance to be his own man after spells working under coaches such as Jim Jefferies, Craig Levein and John Robertson. McGlynn added: "I'd rather have gone out on a high at Hearts but after seven games without a win, that wasn't the case. Obviously, I was involved in a lot at Hearts but I won't be telling stories. It's not my style or nature to dish the dirt. "I have too much respect for the club and don't want to damage it in any way. "They wanted me to stay, particularly during this time when Eduard Malofeev has returned to Russia, but they also appreciated this is a great opportunity for me to be my own man." McGlynn, who will work with former Hearts coach Gary Kirk at Stark's Park, has no doubt Frail will make the most of his opportunity with the first team at Tynecastle. He added: "I'm sure Steve will handle the situation well and maybe even make the step up permanently. I wish him all the best." ![]() Taken from the Daily Record |
